A woman who lost custody of her three young children said she
has "zero hope" of getting them back because she conspired to bribe
divorce judge Gerald Garson.
Esther Weitzner, 38, has not seen her two daughters and son since
Aug. 2, when she packed a suitcase with their clothing, 5-year-old
Rivka's Winnie-the-Pooh doll and 9-year-old Avroham's teddy bear. Her
third child is Miriam, 11.

Supreme Court Justice Michael Ambrosio ruled last week she was an
unfit parent because she paid a middleman $5,000 to obtain a
favorable custody ruling from Garson, who already had been assigned
to her case. She also repeatedly failed to make the children
available for court-ordered visits with her ex-husband, Ambrosio
said.

Weitzner said she regrets breaking the law but acted out of
desperation and not disrespect for the law.

"The bribe was wrong, and I would not encourage anyone to do it," she
said. "Out of desperation you do stupid things.

"I feel that just because I tried to protect my children and gave
money to this mediator to help me win custody, the judge is getting
back at me. He belongs to the 'black robe club.' All judges are
friends with each other."

The mediator, Nissim Elmann, is a Brooklyn businessmen and central
figure in the case-fixing scam that resulted in bribery charges
against Garson, his court clerk, Paul Sarnell, and Court Officer
Louis Salerno.

Sarnell and Salerno are on trial in Brooklyn Supreme Court. Garson is
awaiting trial.

"Elmann approached my father and said the only way to win the court
case is by bribing," Weitzner said. Ellman also is awaiting trial on
bribery charges.

The lawyer for Weitzner's ex-husband did not return a call seeking
comment. Originally published on August 27, 2004

SOMETHING MISSING HERE????? What about the cause of all
this....what about the WOMAN?

Nothing is said about Esther Weitzner being arrested or facing trial
even with her making this statement: Weitzner said she regrets
breaking the law

Is it not time to make those who hire others to do a crime to pay
MORE time then those who they hired? THEY are the cause of the
others breaking the law.
