The hidden half of domestic violence

How to have eternal life

Where's Waldo?

May of you will remember the "Where's Waldo" cartoons.  They are the ones where Waldo is mixed in with dozens of others and we have to pick him out of the crowd.  Many of us want to do the same thing.  We want to blend in with the crowd.

On the opposite end of this, are those that seek to be so different they become what society calls "freaks"  They were the "Hippies" of the 60's and 70's.

They are the Gothic's of today

What is it about people that makes them want to blend in, or to be so radically different that they will stand out in a crowd?  Perhaps some want to blend in so they do not get picked to answer questions?  Just as a student that has not done their homework would hope to blend in with the class so the teacher would not call upon them, they want to blend in so that no one will ask why they are different.

On the other hand, those people such as the Hippies and the Gothic's want to be different.  Although I am not sure they do it in order to be asked why they do it, they do want to be seen as unique.  They want to be recognized for who they are as an individual.  They do not stop to realize that in doing so, they are also blending in with so many others that are trying to stand out too.  They want to be non-conformist but in so doing, they are conforming to non-conformity.

Many Christians also want to blend in with the crowd.  Unfortunately they try to blend in with which ever crowd they happen to be in.  On Sunday morning, you would think they are the pillar of the church.  They sign, pray and often teach Sunday School.

Look at these same people Monday at work. They not only listen to crude jokes that have double innuendos, they often tell them.  They will add the occasional mild cuss words (although they will not use the major ones)  They do not mind having people know they go to church on Sunday morning but they will not go beyond that.   Many call these people...worldly Christians.   They want to best of both worlds.  They are straddling the fence.

Someone once asked; "If it were illegal to be a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?"  I to am asking this question now.

More important, let us find out what God says about this blending in.

2 Corinthians 6:   16:  And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.   17:  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

Anyone who has not trusted Christ for salvation is actually serving idols because anything one places before God is an idol.  As we can see from the above, we are told to be separated from them.  We are told to" stand out," not to "blend in"  Look at this next section of scripture:

Matthew 5:  13:  Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.   14:  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.   15:  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

My friend, we are the only Jesus many will ever see.  If we are blending in, will they see the real Jesus?   1 Peter 3:15 says:  "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear"

How will anyone know that they can ask if we blend in?

Why do some want to be a Waldo?

1:   They are not separated from the world to begin with.  Many think they are a Christian simply because they believe Jesus Christ died for the sins of the World and in so believing, they too are a Christian.   There is an eternal difference between knowing about God and knowing Him.

2:  Fear.  Many are afraid they will not know what to say.  Many have not been taught.  The only "Bible" they know is what they hear in church on Sunday mornings and lately, in many churches that is very little.   We can correct this:  God will tell us what to say:

Jeremiah 1

5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
6 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
7 But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
9 Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

We still have to do our part.  We need to study HIS Word.

2 Timothy 2:15   Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

3:  We are afraid we will be ridiculed.    My friend, when we stand up for Jesus, we not only might be ridiculed, we will be.   Many will work very hard at working out for  a stronger body that may only last a few years yet they will not suffer for something that will reward them for eternity.    John 15: 20  Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.   21  But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

Romans 8:18 tells us that it will be worth this suffering:  "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."

Solutions:

There are easy solutions for each of these problem.  If you are not sure that you are a Christian,  This is for you.  The First Step to Better Relationship  http://www.shatterdmen.com/first_step.htm

For those who do not know what to say, study His word and you will then have a basis for HIS giving you the right words at the right time.  Keep in mind however, that saying nothing when someone asks you about God will not help anyone come to HIM.

For those who have been blending in with the crowd, realize that it is sin.  God has told us to come out from among them, He does not want us to blend in. HE wants us to stand out.  Imagine a light house that tried to blend in and not bring attention to the light it had within.  It would be of no use to those who needed it most.  As a Christian who blends in, we are no use to a lost and dying world.  If you have been doing that, repent. God tells us to confess our sin and HE will forgive them (1 John 1:9)

Determine to be an Isaiah.

Isaiah 6:8  Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
