The hidden half of domestic violence

How to have eternal life

Mountain Climbing

Most of us have seen the news of several mountain climbers that have
fallen in recent weeks. Some have been rescued, well others
were "recovered" or are still missing and presumed dead.

Mountain climbers do have rules to go by. They also have special
equipment and shelters.

The equipment depends on the type of climbing such as snow and ice
or just rock climbing. Pickets are driven into the snow to stop
falls. Crampons or spikes are worn on boots to keep from slipping.

Shelters can be as simple as a snow cave, a cracks in rocks or
simply a trench dug in the snow. Some use tents.

Climbing has three major risks. Falling objects, the climber
falling and inclement weather.

Climbers have to be alert for each of these dangers. When one
climber is advancing, others have to be "dug in" ready to react if a
fall occurs. One must be sure they are on a firm foundation, that
the peg they have driven into the rock will hold. When their
foundation is sure, they have a far better chance of stopping a
fallen climber.

My friend, I see many spiritual applications here also. Our
Christian life is often referred to as climbing to higher ground.

Just as mountain climber have special equipment, we do also. It is
called the full armour of God we can find the list and what the
equipment is for in Ephesians chapter 6.

We too have shelters. The LORD can often hide us from harm in the
cleft of the rock. HE is the shelter in the time of storm and HE is
the anchor that will never fail. David talked about the LORD being
our hiding place.

We too have to be alert for "falling objects" Actually, these are
darts thrown by satan to catch us off guard, to cause us to doubt
God's faithfulness and constant presences in our lives.

We have to be alert to slipping of falling ourselves. Expert
climber do fall. Never think you are so close to the LORD that you
can not fall. We can see many great men and women of GOD who have
fallen. Even most great men in the Bible fell.

Just as a climber has to be sure of his foundation, we need to be
too. We can not count on the strength of others to carry us. WE
each need a close relationship with God and we are each responsible
to confirm anything our leadership tells us with the WORD of God.

Isaiah 28:16 "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in
Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner
stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste."

"Shall not make haste" Most of the falls in both mountain climbing
and in Spiritual matters are a result of doing things too fast.
Often when we feel we have to do it NOW....we are making haste. If
we feel rushed, if we feel confused, it is not from God. It is
satan trying to rush us. (once we know the will of GOD in
something, we should not delay obeying it)

One last thing we want to point out. When someone fall, it is a lot
easier for them to pull us down then for us to pull them up. I have
seen many who have been unequally yoked with those who do not
believe in God. I have often heard them say they can lead them to
the LORD after they are married. Folks it seldom works. Many of
these same people in turn walked away from God themselves. Others
are facing extra trials and tribulations as a result and they are
carrying excess baggage God never intended for them to carry.

To conclude, keep the full armour of God on as we climb higher and
higher to that city and to the author and finisher of our
faith...Jesus Christ.
