The hidden half of domestic violence

How to have eternal life

A lullaby

On a cold, dark winter's night a loving father was holding his young child close as they went back and forth in a rocking chair by the light of the fire in the fireplace. You had to listen carefully to hear it.....

Hush, little baby, don't say a word.
Papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird

And if that mockingbird won't sing,
Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring

And if that diamond ring turns brass,
Papa's gonna buy you a looking glass

Many remember lullabies such as this being sung to them as small children. Some have sang them to our children or grandchildren.

A lullaby is a soothing song sung to children before they go to sleep. The idea is that the song sung by a familiar voice will lull the child to sleep.

Many have not had the joy of hearing a parent sing a lullaby to them. They have come from dysfunctional abusive families. Many others do not have the honor of singing one to their child because they have been ordered not to contact them, often through no fault of
their own.

Many of you need a lullaby sung to you as you are facing a dark cold winter's night. You may be ravenous by disease and in constant pain. Others have had dreams shattered by broken relationships and it seems no one cares.

Let's look at what a lullaby is for a moment:

1: A soothing song.....something that comforts and tells us that all will be OK. Horatio Spafford wrote It Is Well with My Soul after after two major traumas in his life. The first was the great Chicago Fire of October 1871, which ruined him financially (he had been a wealthy businessman). Shortly after, while crossing the Atlantic, all four of Spafford's daughters died in a collision with another ship.
Spafford's wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, "Saved alone." Several weeks later, as Spafford's own ship passed near the spot where his daughters died, the Holy Spirit inspired these words. They speak to the eternal hope that all believers
have, no matter what pain and grief befall them on earth.

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

But, Lord, `tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord!
Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul!

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

2: Sung to children We are all still children to our heavenly FATHER. I know there still are many times I want to be held by HIM, to be rocked and comforted.

3: Before they go to sleep We do need rest from our labors. Jesus has even told us: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

4: A familiar voice John 10:3-5 tells us:  "To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know
his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers"

My friend...GOD does sing YOU lullabies. HE does sing over you!

The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing Zephaniah 3:17

Look at the words HE uses....rejoice...GOD rejoices over YOU! with JOY...and HE takes great joy in singing to us.

I told someone recently that God sings to us and they did not believe it. They said they have not heard it. Psalm 46:10 tells us to Be still, and know that I am God: Perhaps we have not heard God sing to us because we were making too much noise?

Listen to the soft gentle breeze on a hot summer day. How about the birds singing or the brook as the water flows over the rocks. Are these not songs the LORD has given us?

Earlier I said " A familiar voice" If you can not hear God singing to you, perhaps you need to be adapted into HIS family. You see, God sings to HIS children. If you have not accepted HIS invitation to become HIS it today.

If you do belong to HIM, maybe you are not familiar with HIS voice because you have not been spending time with HIM to learn it.

My friend, are the storms raging around you? Do you want the comfort of someone holding you as they sing to you...songs of deliverance, songs of peace...songs of love and acceptance? Jesus is waiting for you to simply reach out to HIM and He will be sing to you,
to love and to hold you...

When you reach out for help
and you find no one there
and the darkness moves in on each side
Just remember that God is always watching in love
and in His loving arms you can always come

Jesus comes in the midst of the storm
To deliver His children from harm
When the storm gets so rough
He will say "that's enough"
When He comes in the midst of the storm

He has power to heal and to deliver from sin
He has power to stop that troublesome wind
There is nothing to hard for the savior to do
Why not reach out to HIM...He is reaching out to you

Jesus comes in the midst of the storm
To deliver His children from harm
When the storm gets so rough
He will say "that's enough"
When He comes in the midst of the storm

Listen for that soft melody as Jesus sings to YOU my friend...HE loves YOU....He really does love YOU!!!!
