How to have eternal life

The Indictment

An indictment is a formal written accusation naming specific persons
and crimes.

As barbaric as we think the Roman empire was, it did have a strong
sense of law and order. When someone was placed in prison, they had
a list of the crimes they were placed in prison for on the cell
door. No one had to ask...why are you here. It was there for all to
see. When a person was executed, the crimes for which they were
being executed were placed above them. This was also true for
Jesus. We often say that Jesus was innocent and did not deserve to
die and we do know that Jesus knew no sin but that is not why HE
died. Just as with all the others that were executed, Jesus did
have a sign placed above His head:

And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing
was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS (John 19:19)

This was the indictment! It was a formal written accusation naming
specific person..Jesus of Nazareth. It listed HIS crime...the KING
Of the Jews.

"THE KING OF THE JEWS" If we can only understand just what this
crime was...we can see that the crimes for which our LORD was
crucified for would take a bill board larger then the heavens itself
for EVERY sin you and I have ever committed was listed. Every sin
anyone has ever committed or will commit was listed in this
indictment.

Part of the song: "It Is Well With My Soul" states: "My sin, not in
part but the whole, Is nailed to the cross,'

Our sin was nailed to the cross in this indictment. This is true for
everyone including those who have rejected the LORD.

1 John 2

1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin
not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only,
but also for the sins of the whole world

The next part of the song, "It Is Well With My Soul" that comes
after our sin being nailed to the Cross is "and I bear it no
more,"

Does this mean that everyone is forgiven? That everyone will be
saved?

NO......It does NOT. You see, we have to accept the payment that
Jesus made for our sin for this payment to apply to our sin just as
we have to accept any gift for it to become ours.

Many of us have seen "Class Action" lawsuits. Some of us have even
gotten letters to say we can be a part of one. In each case, we
have to let them know we want to be included in this suite for it to
apply to us. Well, the crucifixion of our LORD is a class action
suite against satan himself. It has placed satan on notice that the
debt HAS been paid in full! It is legally binding in the ultimate
supreme court BUT for it to include US..we have to let GOD know that
we want to be included. This is done by a simple act of faith in
which we ask GOD to include us...to apply the payment Jesus made for
our sin to our account and we will be included.

My friend, Your sin...all of them have been nailed to HIS cross.
If you have not done so, apply the next part...I bear it no more, by
placing your trust in the LORD as above. Then YOU can sing....

It Is Well With My Soul

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Refrain

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

Refrain

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

Refrain

For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

Refrain

But, Lord, `tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord!
Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul!

Refrain

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

Refrain
